What is IP testing:

IP code is widely used to indicate the strength of waterproof and dustproof performance of electrical equipment. IP is the abbreviation of international protection. IP code defined in IEC 60529 classifies the protection degree of preventing foreign substances (including steel ball, copper wire, dust and water) from entering the shell of mechanical and electrical products.

Ratings are divided into two groups:

One group is used for foreign matters and dust (i.e. solid), the other group is used for liquid (e.g. water), each rating starts with "IP", representing inlet protection, and the first number after "IP" is related to the rating of foreign matters and dust entering.

The first number (0 to 6) shows the level of protection the enclosure enters providing a solid object (such as a tool, wire, hand, finger or dust)

 

The second number is to prevent the liquid from entering. When solving any of the two pollutants, the remaining type is marked with X. For example, ip1x belongs to level 1 to prevent the entry of foreign objects and dust, while x indicates that the level of entering liquid is not given, please note that X does not mean zero protection.

The second bit (0 to 8) indicates the water inlet of the equipment in the protective enclosure. For example, IP54 indicates that the protection level for solid objects is 5, and the protection level for liquid is 4.

The first number of the IP code the first number indicates the level of protection against solid objects:

0. No special protection

1. Protect solid objects 50 mm or larger, e.g. accidental contact by hand

2. Prevent solid objects 12.5 mm or larger, such as fingers.

3. Prevent solid objects (tools and wires) of 2.5 mm or larger.

4. Protect against solid objects (tools, wires and small wires) of 1 mm or larger.

5. Prevent harmful dust from entering.

6. Completely dust-proof.

 

Second digit of IP code:

0. There is no special protection.

1. Prevent drops of water falling vertically.

2. The angle is 15 ° from the vertical direction of the shell, and there is no effect of water drop on the shell.

4. Prevent splashing in all directions.
