Standards Association of Australia is the standard institution in Australia, so many friends call Australian certification SAA certification. Electrical products entering the Australian market must comply with SAA certification. There are two kinds of SAA logo, one is formal recognition, the other is standard logo. The formal certification is only responsible for the sample, and the standard mark is to be reviewed by each factory. The certification scope of SAA is mainly divided into quality management system, environmental management system, occupational health and safety management, information security management. The application period of SAA certification for common products in Australia is 3-4 weeks. If the product quality is not up to standard, the date may be extended. If the delivered product is not certified, the product will be detained or confiscated or a fine will be imposed.

 

SAA certification - Product Safety Certification

There is no unified safety certification mark in Australia. Each state or region has stipulated the management method of electrical products in the form of legislation.  Although the name and date of promulgation are different, the contents of electrical safety legislation in each state or region are basically the same. Electrical products are divided into regulated products and non regulated products. Regulated electrical products are classified according to as / nzs4417.2, including electric heating equipment, refrigeration equipment, electric tools, parts, etc. The catalogue is published in the Official Gazette and is increased according to the actual situation. Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria are the most active in the certification process. In Queensland, for example, the Electricity Act 1994 announced detailed regulations on the certification, sale and use of electrical appliances.

1. Controlled electrical appliances: the controlled electrical appliances must obtain the certificate of approval issued by the monitoring department, and the identification must be specified (the certificate number must be printed). It should be noted that the certification process is only for safety, not performance or quality, unless it is related to safety. The first letter of the certificate number shows which state or region the certificate was issued by.

2. Non regulated electrical appliances: Although non regulated products are not subject to compulsory certification, the seller / manufacturer is responsible for their safety and can apply for certification voluntarily. The monitoring department will issue the certificate of compliance for the products that meet the requirements of the standard. The electrical products that have obtained the certificate of compliance can be printed with the certificate number. The last letter of the certificate shows which state or region the certificate is issued by, such as:

CS / 431 / Q (Queensland)

CS / 108 / N (NSW)

RCM logo: at present, Australia and New Zealand are introducing the RCM logo (regulatory compliance mark) to achieve the unified identification of electrical products. The logo is a trademark owned by the regulatory authorities in Australia and New Zealand, which means that the product meets the requirements of both safety regulations and EMC, which is not mandatory. After the product has obtained safety certification and electromagnetic compatibility registration, it can apply for the use of the RCM logo through the regulatory authority issuing safety certification or "RCM registrar" (Standards Australia).

Saiglobal mark: it is a product safety mark issued by Sai (original SAI). This mark is not mandatory and requires factory inspection, etc.

EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) requirements of electrical products, that is, in a fixed situation, the measurement of electromagnetic disturbance generated by electrical equipment must be lower than a certain standard, which does not hinder the normal operation of other electrical appliances; and the equipment itself has a certain ability to resist electromagnetic disturbance.

SAA certification - certification cycle

In general, the application period for Australia SAA certification for it AV lamps and small household appliances is 3-4 weeks. If the product quality is not up to standard, the date may be extended.

When submitting the report to Australia for audit, SAA certificate of product plug (mainly for products with plug) shall be provided. Otherwise, SAA certificate of important components in the product shall not be handled. For example, SAA certificate of transformer in the lamp shall be provided for the lamp, otherwise the audit data in Australia shall not be passed

The electrical products exported to Australia must meet the electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility standards. If they fail to meet the requirements, they will receive the following treatment:
